DISCOVER DULUTH AND FINNISH TREASURES THROUGH GEOCACHING

Cache Hidden in Duluth Area to Honor FinnFest 2008

People in the Twin Ports and surrounding area are invited to participate in a fun treasure hunting adventure, to search for a cache named "Get to the 'Finnish' line". The cache was hidden on June 9th, by two geocaching enthusiasts and FinnFest 2008 organizing committee members, Arne and Ivy Vainio and their nine years old son Jacob.

The cache, honoring Vainios' Finnish American heritage and the upcoming FinnFest 2008 event, contains items such as Finnish flag lapel pin, Finnish button, and another fun treasure which geocachers call "swag." This cache isn't meant for just Finnish people to find - everyone is welcome to search.

Coordinates and information about the Finnish cache's location, contents and description will be available at www.geocaching.com. To view the cache listing, visitor needs to input the following waypoint name: GC1D0PQ

The Vainio family plans to hide more "Finnish themed" caches closer to FinnFest hoping that visitors, including those from Finland, will be able to search out the caches and get a view of the beautiful city of Duluth while finding treasures.
"Through geocaching we've found beautiful sites and places in Duluth that we didn't know existed. It's a fun activity that our family loves to do because it gets us outside, getting some exercise and just being together,"says Arne Vainio.

Arne Vainio, whos paternal grandparents were Finnish immigrants, is a family-practice physician at the Min-No-Aya-Win Human Services Clinic on the Fond du Lac Ojibwe Reservation in Cloquet, Minn.
